South African President Jacob Zuma undertook a working visit to Sochi, Russian Federation on May 16. With his counterpart Vladimir Putin, Mr. Zuma reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on critical regional and global issues.
Among them, trade was a major topic. "Our economic ties are developing. Last year, our volume of trade suddenly increased by 66 percent, even by more than that. And growth in the first quarter of this year was more than 17 percent," Mr. Putin said.
During the recent Working Visit in Durban of President Vladimir Putin on March 26-27, 2013, eight Agreements in the fields of Education, Energy, Defence, Fisheries, Mineral Resources, Transport and Science and Technology were signed. This visit confirmed South Africa's growing commitment to the BRICS.
