The commission was headed by the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his counterpart Michel Temer. The two officials discussed issues of the bilateral partnership and practical cooperation in trade which was about USD 6 billion in 2012 and other fields like investment, science and energy. Mr Medvedev also met with President Dilma Roussef with whom he mostly spoke about the upcoming BRICS Summit to take place in South Africa and about the priorities of Russia as the next head of the G20.
Asked by O Globo newspaper if any agreement related to air defense was signed, the Russian leader answered no such agreement exists yet, even though the two countries "are simply discussing different forms of military-technical cooperation." Before flying to Cuba and in recognition of Russia's cultural ties with Brazil, Mr Medvedev presented the Pushkin medal to the artistic director of the Melody choir, Galina Shevchyukg and to Brazilian translator and scholar Paulo Bezerra.
