Within the official visit that the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Guatemala, Luis Fernando Carrera did to Ecuador, he met with the Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Ricardo Patiño, with whom he analyzed the progress of the agreemetns and memorandums signed between the two countries in matters of commerce, migration and security, among other topics.
The Ministers also signed the "Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Guatemala and the Government of the Republic of Ecuador, for the protection, conservation, recovery and restitution of cultural and natural heritage, that have been subject to theft, robbery, looting, transportation, traffic and / or illegal marketing. "
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño requested his Guatemalan counterpart the support of his Government for the defense of Ecuador against the Chevron-Texaco case, specifically the creation of the Solidarity Committee, for the nomination of former Vice President, Lenin Moreno, as special representative of the United Nations (UN) on the topic of disabilities, and for the Ecuadorian proposal to achieve the strengthening to the Inter-American Human Rights System.
"We will promote the creation of a Committee of Solidarity with Ecuador for the Chevron issue, it would be great for that Guatemalan society to join us in this uneven battle and need international help," said Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño.
For his part, the Minister of Guatemala invited Ecuador to have more presence in the Central American Integration System (SICA) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Also offered to cooperate in the exchange of knowledge on combat policies against drugs and agricultural technology, in this latter area Guatemalan experts have made several advances.
The Ministers also reviewed the advances of the Agreements that both countries are currently negotiating, which are the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of Guatemala about the Combat Illicit Trafficking of Migrants and Victims Protection" and the "Memorandum of Understanding in Matters of Cooperation between the General Attorney of the Republic of Ecuador and Prosecutorial of Guatemala".
From Ecuador, the meeting was also attended by, Deputy Minister of Human Mobility (e), Maria Landázuri, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Genaro Baldeón, and Secretary of International Cooperation, Gabriela Rosero, among others.
In the afternoon, Foreign Minister Luis Fernando Carrera will give a lecture on "New proposal from Guatemala related to drugs ", in the premises of the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.
