Today, Deputy Prime Minister Ms. Edita Tahiri held an introductory meeting with the new head of the EULEX mission in Kosovo, Mr. Bernd Borchardt. Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Bajram Rexhepi, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Ramadan Avdiu, the Deputy Minister of European Integration, Mr. Gëzim Kasapolli and Ms. Tahiri’s political advisor, Mr. Dren Zeka
In the beginning, Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Borchardt to Kosovo and wished him success in his work at the head of EULEX.
Deputy Prime Minister Edita Tahiri expressed the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to continuing close cooperation with EULEX in order to achieve the goals of advancing rule of law in Kosovo, through European reforms to the justice system and law enforcement in all Kosovo’s territory.
Then Ms. Tahiri talked about the progress in official relations between Kosovo and the EU, with particular emphasis on the Stabilization and Association Agreement and visa liberalization for Kosovo and she expressed her conviction that the EU would soon take a favorable decision for Kosovo and its citizens, taking into consideration Kosovo’s progress in fulfilling European standards. The Kosovo Government will continue its work for European reforms in all areas, with its priority as rule of law, developing a sustainable economy, good governance, and the integration and welfare of all communities, she said. Last year, the supervision of Kosovo’s independence ended and in cooperation with international partners, this occurred very successfully. Furthermore, in this time period, Kosovo has increased the number of countries that recognize its independence and the number of memberships of regional and international organizations has risen, added Ms. Tahiri
Deputy Prime Minister Tahiri said that cooperation in rule of law, in advancing Kosovo’s European agenda and dedication to implementing the Brussels agreements comprise the key areas of cooperation with EULEX, and expressed the conviction that there will be joint progress to this end. She also talked about the Government’s serious commitment to dialogue on normalizing relations between the two states of Kosovo and Serbia, with the mediation and guarantee of the EU, saying that this process is supported by a broad political consensus and is in the interests of good neighborliness and European principles.
The head of EULEX, Mr. Bernd Borchardt said that he welcomes the continuation of good cooperation with the Kosovo Government. In addition, he promised support for the challenges that will occur and said that they would not be underestimated. "EULEX and I are determined to face all challenges and to resolve the problems that confront us" he said.
After this meeting, they held a press conference.
