Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Mr. L.Bold is attending APEC Ministerial Meeting in Bali, Indonesia on October 4-5 at the invitation of the Government of Indonesia which is holding APEC Chairmanship. This is the first time when Mongolia is invited to an APEC high-level meeting since it has submitted its official request for membership in APEC in 1993.
At a meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Mr. Marty Natalegawa, Minister L.Bold thanked Indonesia for inviting Mongolia to join the APEC high-level meeting for the first time and exchanged views on bilateral relations and multilateral and regional cooperation issues.
The present visit of the Mongolian Foreign Minister is an important step for Mongolia towards joining APEC as a member economy, Mr. M.Natalewa stressed and re-affirmed that Indonesia will support Mongolia in joining APEC.
The affiliation with the influential not only in the region, but in the world organization for economic cooperation is one of the priority objectives set in the foreign policy of Mongolia that is targeted at the deep participation in the Asia-Pacific regional integration process and consolidate its position in the region.
In recent years, no country applied for membership in APEC has been invited to the APEC high-level meeting, and Mongolia is the only one invited to the ministerial as a guest.
