During the official visit of Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek and the accompanying ministerial delegation to Serbia, Foreign Minister Erjavec held a separate bilateral meeting with his Serbian counterpart, Ivo Mrkić.
The two ministers confirmed the good relations between Slovenia and Serbia. Minister Erjavec pledged to support Serbia in its efforts to join the EU and expressed support for the beginning of negotiations in December, if possible. Minister Erjavec said that Slovenia believed in the successful coordination of the negotiating framework, its adoption at the European Council and the launch of negotiations.
The ministers agreed that consistent respect for international agreements and obligations is vital for regional cooperation. They expressed readiness and support for an expedited implementation of the Agreement on Succession Issues.
They also signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Economic Cooperation in Third Markets and the Letter of Intent with regard to the Handover of the Former SFRY Residence in Rome to Slovenia. With this letter, the two countries have resolved a long-standing issue.
